Neil has been a prominent figure in the property factoring industry for over 40 years and is widely regarded as a sector leader, having collaborated closely with numerous professional organisations and representative bodies. He joined the company in 1982 as an Assistant Property Manager, was subsequently appointed to the Board of Directors, and became Managing Director in 2008. His deep understanding of the challenges faced by property owners, particularly those sharing communal areas and facilities, has been instrumental in guiding the company through significant periods of growth and transformation before, during, and after the introduction of the Property Factors (Scotland) Act 2011. Neil stepped down from his MD role and was appointed Chairman in 2019, moving to Non-Executive of the Proprius Group in 2026, where he continues to provide guidance and mentorship as part of the executive team.
Previously contributing to the Scottish Government’s Housing Improvement Task Force, Neil has helped shape landmark tenement legislation, and more recently played a key role in the Scottish Governments Tenement Maintenance Working Group, advising on the development of forthcoming mandatory Owners Association legislation. His commitment to influencing positive, long term change in Scotland’s housing stock, especially within tenement property, is a defining feature of his career. His continuing desire is to seek change in legislation to enable tenement property in Scotland to be maintained to a much higher standard than at present, and to press stakeholders for greater support for homeowners to help them achieve this aim.
Neil served as President and Director of the factoring industry`s trade body, the Property Managers Association, and since the 2025 merger with The Property Institute he has taken on the role of Strategic Policy Advisor for Scotland, where he leads on residential property matters to help shape the future policy direction of the property factoring industry and its service to homeowners.
Alongside his commitments to the property factoring industry, Neil has enjoyed a successful parallel career in professional football. Neil played for several senior clubs before moving into coaching and management in the professional game, later serving on boards as a Director and advisor/consultant. He turned down various high profile management offers, favouring a career in business.
Neil and his wife are now spending more time following their [grown up] kids, and their five grandchildren, particularly since two of them have decided a life in USA is more appealing than the West of Scotland!
